Chartered in 1844, St. James Lodge #47, F.&A.M. is the oldest Masonic Lodge in the Baton Rouge Area. This website gives you information on our rich history and current activities. We hold regular meetings the first and third Thursday of every month. Refreshments are served at 6:30 p.m., and meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to join us for dinner and open meetings. Our active membership spans across all age groups, from college students to men in their 80's and 90's.
We have met at our current downtown location since 1907, a publically accepted historic building in Baton Rouge. The meeting area of the lodge includes two lodge rooms, a dining hall, a lounge, kitchen and foyer. We currently have the pleasure of renting this section of the building to the Downtown York Rite bodies and The Lodge of Nine Muses. The lodge also includes a separate wing, along Third Street, reserved for commercial use by tenants. For more information on rent, please visit our Rent page (coming soon) and feel free to contact us.
